 First Home Owners Grant Scheme introduced.

The First Home Owner Grant Scheme (FHOG) was introduced on 1 July 2000 to offset the effects of the GST on home ownership. It is a national scheme that is funded and administered by the States. Western Australia has it's own legislation that supports this scheme.

Under the FHOG applicants have been entitled to a one-off grant of $7,000 provided they meet the scheme eligibility criteria.

Federal Government announces FHOG Boost.

Last year the Federal Government announced a First Home Owners Boost. This announcement provided for the following:

* Eligible First Home buyers who purchase an established home will receive a boost of $7,000 that will double the existing grant to $14,000.

* To apply for the boost First Homeowners will only need to apply for a FHOG on the relevant application form.

* Eligible First Home buyers who buy a new home (build or purchase a newly constructed home) will receive a $14,000 boost to take their grant to $21,000.

* To apply for the $14,000 boost First Homeowners will need to complete the FHOG Application form AND the Addendum for First Home Owners Boost Scheme (October 2008).
